Stifling Silence

Charoletta Paeton reflects on her total lack of hearing

Stifling Silence

Charoletta Paeton, that is true my name.
But I have never heard it said, uttered in the same.

I've seen it, seen it signed before my eyes,
But hear it? No. I can not surmise.

Stifling silence, is this how it feels?
But, I do not fear what the silence yields.

For me, since I came upon this Earth...
You see, I have been deaf since birth.

My hearing they all try to heal,
But words I never would reveal.

I just decline with a polite bow,
For I've learned to accept the silence now...
